Family: Asteraceae Scientific name: Cassinia longifolia Description: Plant Form: Perennial shrub. Size: Up to 8 m tall, usually under 2.5 m. Stem: Yellowish or greyish with short, spreading hairs coming from glands. Leaves: Somewhat sticky, dark green, shiny, and smooth. Elongated oblong or lance-shaped up to 8 cm long. With edges curving underneath. Underside is paler and covered in fine hairs. Flowers: Dense, branching clusteres of creamy white oval-shaped to slightly bell-shaped flowerheads. Aromatic. Fruit and Seeds: Cylindrical, sometimes ribbed, with a ring of long parachuting hairs above. Habitat: Native to southeastern Australia. Grows in forests, woodlands, ridgelines and disturbed areas. Distinguishing Features: Distinguished from another native Common cassinia (Cassinia aculeata) by having leaves which are smooth and shiny rather than rough and hairy on top.
