Family: Apiaceae Scientific name: Eryngium ovinum Description: Plant Form: Perennial herb. Size: Up to 60 cm tall. Stem: Erect, stiff, green, becoming metallic blue towards top. Leaves: Deeply divided at base into linear segments, becoming less divided higher up and decreasing in size. Flowers: Oval to globular compound of many tiny flowers. Metallic blue, sometimes whitish in centre, and with many spiky blue bracts surrounding. Fruit and Seeds: Small 2.5-4 mm and covered in bladder-like scales. Habitat: This native plant inhabits a wide variety of predominantly inland habitats including grasslands, open woodlands, disturbed areas, roadsides, pastures, rocky areas.
