Family: Asparagaceae Scientific name: Sansevieria trifasciata Description: Plant Form: Upright succulent herb. Size: Up to 60 cm tall. Stem: The only above ground stems are flowering stalks. Leaves: Stiff, lance-shaped, relatively narrow fleshy blades 0.6-1.2 m long. Dark green with mottled greyish or yellowish-green. Flowers: Small, tubular, green to cream coloured, 2.5-3 cm long, in elongated clusters on a spike which is usually shorter than the leaves. Fruit and Seeds: Round bright orange berries, 6-7 mm long. Habitat: Roadsides, old gardens, riparian areas, disturbed areas, urban bushland. Distinguishing Features: Can be similar to African bowstring hemp (Sansevieria trifasciata) but has narrower leaves which lack yellowish-coloured edges.
